🌱 From Our Garden: Bottle Gourd
Good morning! Today's market special is something we offer once every few years.
I planted bottle gourd (dudhi) just to fill our freezer with one of our family's favorite vegetables. Well — our garden had other plans. The vines have completely taken over, our freezer is full, and they're still producing.
So today, we're sharing a little taste of our home with you.
This is one of my husband's favorite dishes that my mom makes. While I was busy keeping Backyard Buffalo running this week, Mom stepped into the kitchen and taught Gabriela, our head cook, exactly how she's prepared it for our family for years.
Bottle gourd is one of the oldest vegetables still grown today and has been a staple in Indian home kitchens for generations. It's naturally light, over 90% water, and its mild flavor makes it perfect for soaking up all the spices that make Indian home cooking so comforting.
We only made one small batch, and when it's gone, it's gone. Grab one and let us know what you think. Should this family favorite stay in our kitchen, or does it deserve a permanent spot at Backyard Buffalo?
Not much of a model, but I can grow a bottle gourd. 🌿
